6th period assignment - 10/31

What is the difference between the three rules:
 (4x, 4y)
(x + 4 , y + 4)
(4x + 4 , 4y + 4)

(Think – how would the rules effect a shape with different points on a coordinate plane – what would each rule do to the shape? How are they different from each other? Would each rule create a similar shape? How do you know?)

6th period reflection - 10/22/10

When you enlarge or reduce a figure, what features stay the same? What features change?

What does it mean for two shapes to be SIMILAR? ("Two shapes are similar if...")

5th prd Assignment - 9/22 (due 9/24)

Choose one of the graphs below and create a story explaining the graph.  You must explain which graph you chose, include an appropriate title for the graph, establish an independent and dependent variable (explain in terms of “this depends on this”), and tell a story that relates both variables to the trend shown on the graph.  You CANNOT use any previous stories that we have used in our notes or ACE problems.  Make this an original story! This posting needs to be REALISTIC and detailed! Check your spelling and grammar. It is VERY possible that this will be a level 2 grade!

6th prd. Assignment - 9/10

At this point in our class, we have been using time as our independent (x-axis) variable - everything has been dependent on time (ex: the distance traveled depended on the time; as time went on, our distance increased). The graph below shows the results of an experiment conducted to see the relationship of 'dissolve time' and 'temperature' of salt in water. This graph now shows time on the y-axis, which indicates that it is our dependent variable. Is this possible? Explain.

(hint: Think of the variables you are dealing with when you create your explanation. I did not put a scale on this graph on purpose!)

6th prd. Assignment: 9.3.10

Describe the steps you would take in making a graph to show the relationship between two related variables. Remember to explain what variables you would put on each axis and if you would connect your points with line segments.

Welcome to 7th Grade Pre AP Pre Algebra!

Welcome 7th graders! You have been hearing a lot (maybe even too much!) about myself, this class, and things about our upcoming year in math. Now I want to know everything about you - so tell me! Post a comment to this blog posting and tell me a little more about you (what you like to do outside of school, a few of your favorite things, anything about your friends/family, something unique about you, etc). Feel free to attach a few pictures (no more than 3) if you want!
